2019:

Through the The Graduate School’s office of Public Lectures at UW, in collaboration with the department of American Ethnic Studies and the Southeast Asia Center, we brought Vietnamese American fine artist Trinh Mai to campus as a Walker Ames Scholar in April 2019 for a week of in class activities and tours.

In collaboration with the Seattle Public Libraries and the Vietnamese Friendship Association, we hosted two Seattle Reads events at the Samuel E. Kelly Ethnic Cultural Center. On April 8, we had a reading circle to discuss Thi Bui’s graphic novel The Best We Could Do, selected as the Seattle Reads book of 2019. On April 15, I had the privilege of moderating a conversation with the artist. This event was graciously sponsored by Walter Chapin Simpson Center for the Humanities and catered by Chu Minh Tofu.
